ERASMUS LLP: lifelong learning

One of the main aims of the ERASMUS programme is to contribute to the construction of a European Higher Education Area through its main objectives, which include:

  • improving the quality and increasing the volume of student and lecturer mobility in Europe
  • improving the quality and increasing the volume of multilateral cooperation between higher education establishments (HEE) and, since 2007, between higher education establishments and industry
  • improving the transparency and compatibility of qualifications attained in higher education and advanced vocational training in Europe.

The first large-scale European exchange programme, ERASMUS encourages mobility within Europe for students (periods of study or internships), teaching staff (teaching assignments), and all other staff within higher education establishments (training periods).
Erasmus also fosters cooperation between higher education establishments by drawing up intensive programmes and encouraging networks and multilateral projects, as well as programmes of conferences and European schools. Montpellier 1 University is a holder of the Erasmus University Charter for 2008-2013, which enables the financing of the different actions to be carried out within the programme. Within the framework of the "Jean Monnet" programme, Montpellier 1 University (CERCOP) benefited from a grant in 2010 for the organisation of a conference exploring the topic of “The state of European constitutional law one year after the Lisbon Treaty”.
